Thigh Lift Seattle & Tacoma

The thighs are a frequent problem that patients who come to Seattle Plastic Surgery are concerned about. While anyone may carry extra thigh skin or fat they want to get rid of, those who have begun to see sagging due to age or who have lost a significant amount of weight are especially susceptible to cosmetic issues of the thighs. Depending on the concerns, there are a few surgeries Dr. Jonov may recommend. One of the common ones is a thigh lift. Seattle Plastic Surgery provides the best thigh lift Seattle and Tacoma offer.

Overview: Thigh Lift Surgery

Thigh lift surgery involves removing extra skin from the inner, upper thighs. However, it can extend as far as the knee in some cases. The formation of extra skin on the thighs can occur for several reasons. Though, most commonly, it happens due to the natural sagging of the skin that happens with aging, major weight loss or fluctuation, and following pregnancy.

The inner thighs are the most commonly treated, but Dr. Jonov can also perform an outer thigh lift if necessary. This reduces excess skin from the outer part of the thigh and often is combined with an inner thigh lift. In general, the thigh lift is a surgery frequently added to other procedures such as tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, and even Brazilian butt lifts.

Benefits

For good candidates, a thigh lift carries many benefits. The benefits a patient experiences will vary depending on the case of their thigh appearance and the specifics of the procedure they undergo. Some of the benefits include:

  • Slimmer looking thighs
  • Improves overall shape of the thighs
  • Removes excess skin
  • Uses liposuction to remove stubborn fat pockets
  • Can create a thigh gap
  • May address stretch marks
  • Younger looking body contours
  • More proportional body contours
  • Reduces the forming of rashes on the thighs
  • May improve cellulite
  • Highlight weight loss
  • Easy to combine with other surgeries
  • Long lasting results
  • Incisions placed in hidden locations
  • Safe and effective
  • Can benefit adult patients of all ages
  • Performed by a plastic surgeon with decades of experience in body contouring surgery

Risks

Like all surgeries, a thigh lift does come with some risks. While minimal in patients deemed good candidates, it is important to understand the risks and how they may affect you. Some of the risks include:

  • Complications associated with general anesthesia
  • Infection
  • Skin necrosis
  • Fluid collection
  • Bleeding
  • Poor healing
  • Visible or raised scarring
  • Prolonged swelling and bruising
  • Asymmetry

Dr. Jonov will discuss the risks with you during a consultation. Patients who smoke are at a much higher risk of skin necrosis and poor healing/scarring. Some medical conditions may also increase your risk for certain complications. However, this usually does not disqualify a patient assuming they manage and treat their condition.

Thigh Lift vs. Thigh Liposuction

Along with a thigh lift, another popular thigh enhancement procedure is thigh liposuction. The two procedures are often performed at the same time and can complement each other. However, how can you tell if you need one or the other? The table below details the differences between these two procedures and how to tell which might benefit you most.

Thigh Lift Thigh Liposuction
  • Larger incisions; often including a vertical one down the thigh
  • Removes extra skin
  • May address skin and fat
  • Best performed under general anesthesia
  • Tightens skin
  • More dramatic results
  • Small incisions usually hidden in the fold of the thigh or knee
  • Removes stubborn fat
  • Only addresses fat
  • Can be performed under local anesthesia
  • Does not tighten skin
  • Can provide dramatic results

As mentioned, it is increasingly common for patients to get both a thigh lift and thigh liposuction for the ultimate thigh contouring. However, this is not always necessary. Dr. Jonov will determine this during your consultation.

Consultation

At a consultation with Dr. Craig Jonov, he will determine if you are a good candidate for thigh lift surgery. To begin, you and Dr. Jonov will discuss your procedures of interest and aesthetic goals. He will also review your medical history and the medications you take. Finally, Dr. Jonov may examine the thighs and surrounding areas. After evaluating all of these factors, he will decide if you are a good candidate for a thigh lift.

Before leaving the office, you will receive your finalized price quote and financing information. You then have a window of time to schedule your surgery to guarantee the price.

Surgery

Dr. Jonov will start thigh lift surgery by creating the necessary incision. This will usually include in the crease at the start of the leg and down the thigh as far as needed. Dr. Jonov may then use liposuction to remove unnecessary fat. Next, he will remove extra, saggy skin from the thighs. Finally, Dr. Jonov will tighten the remaining skin over your new thigh contour.

He will repeat the process on the other side. The surgery usually does not take longer than about two to three hours, unless extensive or combined with other procedures. Dr. Jonov will walk you through the surgical process during your consultation and before surgery.

Recovery

Thigh lift surgery requires a basic recovery period like any major surgery. While recovery instructions can vary based on the patient and the procedure, some common recovery directions given to thigh lift patients include:

  • Take prescribed medications
  • Avoid putting pressure on your thighs, including through sitting, laying down is recommended at first
  • Limit physical activity to necessary and slow walking
  • Refrain from smoking or drinking
  • Do not submerge the incisions
  • Shower when and as directed by Dr. Jonov
  • Avoid touching the area unnecessarily
  • Attend all post-operative appointments
  • Wear a compression garment if needed (usually if liposuction was performed)
  • Stay hydrated and eat well
  • Do not resume activities until okayed by Dr. Jonov and do so gradually
  • Take at least one to two weeks off work
  • Monitor for signs of infection
  • Begin scar treatment when recommended

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do Thigh Lift Scars Look Like?

Thigh lift scars generally involve a small incision in the fold where your thigh and pubic area meet. Then, a vertical scar extends down the thigh. The exact length of this scar depends on how much skin needs to be removed.

Usually, a thigh lift will result in semi-visible scars in a standard bathing suit. However, since the incisions are on the inner thighs, the scars are often not noticed. Dr. Jonov will do his best to minimize the vertical incision.

In addition to following basic recovery instructions, Dr. Jonov may recommend Scar Protocol which helps minimize your scarring as it forms rather than after. This can help your thigh lift scars become less noticeable.

Can You Do A Tummy Tuck & Thigh Lift At The Same Time?

Yes, in the right patients, a tummy tuck and thigh lift are perfectly safe to perform together. The results of each procedure also complement each other. It is common for the thighs to throw off tummy tuck results and make the body look disproportionate. This does not occur when combining the procedures.

Will It Also Treat Cellulite?

A thigh lift may help minimize or even remove the appearance of cellulite. If the skin and/or fat causing the cellulite is removed, this will likely remove the cellulite. However, women of all weights experience cellulite, so even after surgery, there is no guarantee the cellulite will not come back.

How Long Does A Thigh Lift Last?

Thigh lift results tend to last several years as long as the patient maintains their weight. However, unfortunately, no procedure can stop aging and your skin may become lax again at some point in your life.

What Is The Cost Of A Thigh Lift?

Thigh lift surgery at Seattle Plastic Surgery starts at $8,995. You will receive a custom price quote upon consultation. Liposuction, additional procedures, or a large amount of skin removal may incur additional costs. When I decided to finally pull the trigger and get the lift and reduction I’d been longing for, I had no clue where to start. I knew my insurance wouldn’t cover it as it was purely cosmetic so I just perused websites and relied on reviews (like this!) Even with the great accolades and reviews for Dr Jonov it still felt like a gamble... but this one really paid off. Dr Jonov is an exceptional doctor and takes great pride in his work. I could not be happier with the outcome. I am so happy I did this procedure and used Seattle Plastic Surgery. They have been fully engaged in my healing process which has been really helpful as well.
