Breast Augmentation Revision

Breast augmentation revision is a procedure aimed at improving or correcting the results of a past breast augmentation. While implants can provide long-lasting enhancement, they do not always keep their appearance or function over time. Implants can rupture, shift position, or no longer match your aesthetic goals. When this happens, a carefully planned revision can restore both comfort and confidence, providing natural-looking, personalized results.

This follow-up procedure may involve changing the implant size, smoothing out ripples, removing scar tissue, or replacing older implants with today’s softer, improved options. At The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Craig Jonov specializes in custom breast revision surgery.

Reasons Patients Seek Breast Implant Revision

Patients choose breast augmentation revision for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Capsular Contracture: Tight scar tissue makes breasts feel hard or look distorted.
  • Implant Malposition: Implants that sit too high, too low, too wide, or appear asymmetrical.
  • Size Switch‑Up: Ready to level up (or downsize).
  • Rupture or Deflation: Saline leak or silicone shell tear.

Rippling / Wrinkling: Uneven textures or wrinkles visible on the skin.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation Revision

  • Restores balanced shape, symmetry & position
  • Relieves pain or tightness from scar tissue
  • Upgrades you to modern, longer‑lasting implants
  • Refreshes your look after babies or weight changes
  • Helps reignite confidence

What Happens During Breast Implant Revision Surgery?

Step 1: Consultation & 3D Imaging

This is where it all starts. You’ll meet one-on-one with Dr. Jonov at our office to talk about what you’re experiencing and how you want your results to change. Whether it’s discomfort, symmetry issues, size dissatisfaction, or rippling, you can mention everything.

He will perform a physical evaluation and explain what’s happening beneath the surface. One of the best parts? You’ll get to preview your potential outcome using Vectra 3D imaging. This gives you a realistic idea of how different implant shapes or sizes might look on your body before you commit to surgery.

Step 2: Custom Surgical Plan

Dr. Jonov creates a personalized plan based on your anatomy, previous surgeries, and the look or feel you want now.

Depending on your needs, this plan might include:

  • Implant exchange (bigger, smaller, or switching to a different type)
  • Capsulectomy (removing scar tissue around the implant)
  • Pocket adjustment (re-centering or reshaping the implant’s position)
  • Explant plus lift (removing implants completely but still achieving a lifted look)

He’ll guide you through every option—what’s necessary, what’s optional, and what will give you the best long-term result.

Step 3: Surgery Day

On the day of your procedure, you’ll arrive at our surgical facility. Surgery usually takes between 1.5 to 3 hours under general anesthesia. Most patients go home the same day.

You’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. We’ll make sure you and your companion feel confident before leaving.

Step 4: Recovery

Most patients say recovery from revision is easier than their first augmentation.

  • The first few days:  You’ll feel sore and a bit tight across your chest. This is normal. Most swelling will be at its worst during this time. Prescription pain medications can help, and we’ll provide detailed instructions on resting, moving, and sleeping comfortably.
  • 1 week in:  You’ll come back for a check-up with Dr. Jonov. If everything looks good, you’re cleared to return to desk work or light activity.
  • Weeks 2–4:  Swelling will start to go down. You’ll notice your breasts beginning to soften and settle. You can take light walks and gentle movements, but avoid heavy lifting or anything high-impact.
  • Weeks 4–6:  By this time, most patients are back to normal activities, including workouts. Your results will start to look and feel more natural. We’ll also discuss scar care and long-term maintenance.
  • Months 3–6: This is when your final results really take shape. Your implants will have fully settled, scars will continue to fade, and your confidence will rise.

Throughout the process, our team is here for you. We’re not just answering questions, but actively supporting you. This includes helping with paperwork and ensuring you have the right post-op bras and recovery tips.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a revision?

If you’re experiencing discomfort, visible implant changes, or simply feel your results no longer suit your body, a consultation with a provider can determine if revision is right for you.

Can you use the same incision?

Yes, whenever possible, Dr. Jonov uses your original incision to minimize additional scarring.

How much does breast revision cost?

The price varies based on complexity, surgical techniques, and whether new implants are needed. Full costs, including surgical center and anesthesia, are discussed during your consultation.

Is revision more painful than my first augmentation?

Not necessarily. Many patients report easier recovery the second time due to better preparation and modern techniques.
