BOTOX FOR MIGRAINES IN SEATTLE AND TACOMA
Nearly everyone will have a migraine at some point in their life. Normally recognizable by the throbbing or pulsing pain on one side of the head (sometimes both), these intense headaches can leave you completely debilitated and unable to work or partake in your everyday activities. However, for some migraine sufferers, they experience 15 days a month where their life is impacted by migraines. This is known as chronic migraines. BOTOX–the famed cosmetic injection to reduce facial lines and wrinkles–has emerged as a leader in preventing migraines in chronic sufferers. This can dramatically improve their quality of life and help those with chronic migraines get back to their life. Seattle Plastic Surgery offers BOTOX for migraines to chronic migraine patients in Seattle and Tacoma.
HOW DOES BOTOX PREVENT MIGRAINES?
BOTOX is a type of injectable known as a neuromodulator. Neuromodulators disrupt the messages your brain sends to your muscles and, in the case of BOTOX for migraines, nerves. This does not stop their function, but rather, keeps the muscles relaxed and helps prevent overactivity of the muscles and nerves. This can significantly reduce the amount of headaches chronic migraine patients have in a month.
BOTOX is a form of botulinum toxin A, which is safe when injected in small doses over time. Cosmetically, it helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles, as well as, train the facial muscles so that new wrinkles are not formed. This is similar to how BOTOX for migraines works. BOTOX does not treat migraines, but works as a tool to prevent future migraines.
BOTOX can usually be used in conjunction with treatments such as painkillers or other prescribed medications. Some medications can cause negative interactions with BOTOX, so it is important to tell your provider all of the medications you take, not just those for migraines.
