When most people think of breast augmentation, they typically just picture bigger breasts. While this procedure may change the size of a woman’s breasts, it can also correct breast asymmetry, improve breast shape, reconstructs the breasts after mastectomy, create more attractive cleavage, expand clothing options, and help a woman feel better in clothing and bathing suits. Most women who undergo breast augmentation report improved self-confidence in their personal and professional life.

Women who are in good general health and hoping to enhance the size and shape of their breasts are the ideal candidates for breast augmentation. Dr. Jonov highly recommends this procedure to Seattle women who are bothered by small, disproportionate breasts, would like to restore the volume of their breasts after pregnancy, mastectomy, or weight loss, are interested in resolving breast asymmetry, or wish to improve the look of aging, sagging breasts.

In addition, patients should be near their ideal weight before undergoing breast augmentation because any weight gain or loss after surgery will affect the cosmetic results. A private consultation with Dr. Jonov can help a woman determine whether she is a good candidate for breast augmentation.

Meeting with Dr. Jonov at his Seattle office is an important step in moving forward with a breast augmentation surgery. During a consultation, patients can explain why they would like to undergo breast augmentation and allow Dr. Jonov to help her determine whether she is a good candidate. Dr. Jonov will perform a physical exam, ask the patient questions, and provide treatment recommendations. If Dr. Jonov does believe breast augmentation is a good idea, he will design a customized treatment plan and answer any questions the patient may have.

One of the major choices women will have to make regarding their breast augmentation procedure is whether they’d like saline implants or silicone gel implants. While each is made with a silicone outer shell, their internal material can make a difference in the look and feel of the breasts after surgery. Also, while silicone gel implants are placed pre-filled, saline implants are first placed on the chest wall and then filled with a saline solution.

Besides choosing the material, women will also have to decide on factors such as a smooth or textured shell, a round, tapered, or teardrop shape, a low, medium, or high projection, and the width of the breast implant. After getting to know their aesthetic goals, Dr. Jonov can assist patients with making these key cosmetic surgery decisions.

By properly preparing for breast augmentation surgery, patients can help ensure their procedure goes smoothly and reduce their recovery time. Patients will be encouraged to stick to a healthy diet and get plenty of rest in the weeks before the surgery. Dr. Jonov recommends that patients refrain from taking herbs and anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin for at least a week before breast augmentation in order to prevent excessive bleeding.

Smokers will be required to quit at least six weeks before surgery. Since patients will be groggy after undergoing breast augmentation, they should arrange for someone to drive them home and stay with them until they are completely awake from the anesthesia.

The specific method of inserting and positioning the implants will depend on the patient’s anatomy and Dr. Jonov’s recommendations. The breast augmentation incisions can be made either in the underlying crease where the breast meets the chest wall or around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). Every effort will be made to ensure that the incision is placed so resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.

Dr. Jonov will create a pocket directly behind the breast tissue or behind a muscle known as the pectoral muscle. As soon as the implant is properly added to the pocket, sutures will be used to close the incisions. To assist with healing process, gauze will be applied over the breasts. General anesthesia is typically used and surgery time is usually one hour.

Some women may benefit from breast augmentation with fat transfer instead of breast implants. If they are seeking more natural breast results and have enough excess fat in other areas of their body, Dr. Jonov may suggest this technique. Patients who opt for breast augmentation with fat transfer should understand that this technique will not modify the position of their breasts.

Breast cancer is one of the most physically and emotionally challenging diseases a woman can deal with. While a mastectomy can save the life of a woman with breast cancer, it can also leave them feeling self-conscious and unhappy with their body. By undergoing breast augmentation after a mastectomy, women can restore their breasts and feel more feminine and beautiful. Breast augmentation after a mastectomy is typically performed using a woman’s own body tissue or saline implants.

Once breast augmentation surgery is over, patients may experience soreness and exhaustion for a few days. The good news, however, is that they will likely be up and moving in a few days. For the first two weeks after surgery, they will need to stay away from heavy lifting. The majority of patients who undergo breast augmentation return to work in 7 to 10 days.

The gauze will be removed in a few days and Dr. Jonov will instruct a patient to wear a surgical bra. Since the stitches will be concealed under the skin, a removal will not be necessary. Once the swelling subsides, patients will enjoy breasts that look and feel natural.

Dr. Jonov was referred to me from a friend and since then I have referred him to many others. Plastic surgery is a very personal procedure and Dr. Jonov will make you feel comfortable with each visit. I have been his patient for breast implants, injections and a breast lift. There has never been hidden fees nor surprises when dealing with him and his staff and my quote was handed to me in writing weeks before my procedure. Also, when my husband needed help with after procedure questions – Dr. Jonov called us personally to help us. Also, the staff has re-arranged a schedule to allow me to come in after hours as well. He is fantastic and you can’t go wrong in working with Dr. Jonov and his staff. Sincerely, another one of his returning patients.

During a consultation, Dr. Jonov can explain how a breast augmentation can help you meet your aesthetic goals.

What is the right age for a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is not solely for young women. Women of all ages spanning from 18 to 50 years old and beyond may benefit from this procedure. Yes. In fact, many women opt for this procedure because pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter the shape and size of the breasts. Breast augmentation can typically provide women with the youthful breasts they enjoyed before having children.

Would I be able to breastfeed after receiving breast implants?

Fortunately, breast implants do not typically affect breastfeeding and most women are able to breastfeed after breast augmentation, especially if they were able to prior to the procedure. If you are concerned about breastfeeding after breast implants, be sure to speak to Dr. Jonov about this during your consultation. He can design a treatment plan that avoids interference with the milk ducts as much as possible.

Are breast implants permanent?

Although breast implants are not intended to last forever, you can expect long-lasting results. Many patients who receive breast implants may undergo another breast augmentation at some point to maintain their results.

Dr. Jonov always informs young patients who wish to undergo breast augmentation that they will likely require surgery again to have their implants removed and replaced at some point in their lifetime. He encourages patients with breast implants to visit his office at least once a year so that he can make sure everything looks good, take measurements, and answer any questions or address any concerns. Detecting implant rupture is more difficult when a patient has silicone gel implants, and it’s important that patients monitor their implants carefully.
